Attractions

Citadel, Visegrád
Perhaps the most iconic structure of Visegrád, commonly referred to as the Visegrád Castle in everyday language.
Still, what most people know it for—and what visitors to Visegrád truly love about the Citadel—is the breathtaking panorama from above.
Looking down from the hilltop over the town and the Danube Bend, you are greeted with a view you will surely never forget. And if you've been here before, all it takes is a short walk to the terrace of the Citadel to be swept away once again by the unforgettable experience.

Esztergom Basilica
The largest church of the Hungarian Catholic Church welcomes visitors year-round with unique experiences—whether it's the Treasury exhibition, the panoramic café offering a one-of-a-kind view, or the dome lookout.
The building of the Basilica can be visited free of charge, but you will need a ticket to access the Treasury, the Crypt, and the Dome.

Juliánus Lookout Tower - Nagymaros
The nearly 15-meter-high Julianus Lookout Tower, named after Brother Julianus and reminiscent of a medieval bastion, stands atop the 482-meter-high Hegyestető peak. From the tower, visitors can enjoy stunning views not only of the Danube but also of the Börzsöny Mountains.
You can reach the lookout via a roughly 4-kilometer trail marked with blue signs from Nagymaros, or yellow signs from Zebegény. The hiking route can be explored year-round, though it's wise to consider weather conditions before setting out. A covered area on the middle level of the tower offers shelter from wind and rain.
One of the site's unique features is its panoramic view—offering a near-complete vista of the Danube Bend.

Excursion Tips
Várhegy Lookout Tower - Szokolya
The Várhegy Lookout, opened in 2020, offers a magnificent view of the Börzsöny mountain ridges from over 350 meters high. At its foot lies Királyrét, one of the most popular family hiking destinations in the Budapest metropolitan area, surrounded by wild, natural scenery. It can be reached by three different trails, depending on the hikers' endurance, all embraced by captivating forest environments.
Location
Várhegy rises above Szokolya, next to the tourist center and the upper terminal of the Királyréti Forest Railway. The area features several rest spots, restaurants, and snack bars, which make the otherwise moderate hiking routes much easier. It is roughly 1.7 kilometers from the central part of Királyrét.
View
The 20-meter-tall, triangular-shaped lookout tower has three levels, so you don't have to climb all the way to enjoy a bird's-eye view of the landscape.
Access
The lookout is part of the Királyrét nature trail but can be visited independently without completing the entire trail. Visitors can choose from three routes:
-
The green-marked path is easy enough for young children and seniors.
-
The yellow path requires a bit more effort.
-
The red path challenges your endurance and can reduce the hiking time from 40 to 20 minutes. However, it's best not to attempt the red trail without ankle-supporting, high-quality hiking boots.
Ördögmalom Waterfall - Visegrád
If you're looking for a gentle walk in the lap of nature, the Ördögmalom Waterfall is an excellent choice. This cascade is located in the Apátkúti Stream valley, just 2.5 km from the center of Visegrád.
Formation
The Apátkúti Stream originates near Pilisszentlászló and flows into the Danube at Visegrád. Along its approximately 10-kilometer course, one of its most enchanting spots is the Ördögmalom Waterfall and its surroundings. Along the stream, you can see large boulders that the water has carried downstream after heavy rains. The falling water and debris have carved huge hollows into the rock face. During the warm summer months, children often use the naturally formed pools to cool off.
Access
The dirt path leading to the waterfall can be a bit slippery, but handrails help ensure a safe climb. There is a resting area near the cascade with benches and tables. Exploring the area makes a perfect family outing. A short walk will also take you to nearby attractions such as Telgárthy Meadow, the Miklós Bertényi Botanical Garden, and the Kaán Spring.
Kós Károly Lookout Tower - Zebegény
In 1960, a lookout tower was built on Kopasz Hill using the partially completed Trianon memorial. The structure, originally made with iron stairs, became hazardous over the years, so in 2014 it was dismantled to be redesigned according to the original plans for the Trianon memorial. At the same time, it was decided to build a new lookout tower near the memorial.
The finished Kós Károly Lookout Tower, made of red pine wood, was inaugurated in 2015 on the hill near Zebegény. Designed by Árpád Csóka, the tower resembles more a church than a traditional lookout, inspired by the border fortifications of the former Roman Empire. Since Kós Károly—the tower's namesake—was born in Kolozsvár (Cluj-Napoca), the lower part of the tower was shaped similarly to a Székely gate.
Panorama
The lookout offers stunning views of the rooftops of Zebegény, the Danube River, and the Pilis Mountains, making it a very popular destination for visiting tourists.
Access
The memorial and the lookout are only a few minutes' walk from Zebegény's main square, making it easily accessible even for families with children.

Verőce Free Beach
Beat the summer heat with the refreshing waves of Verőce Free Beach!
If you want to take a dip at one of the Danube Bend's most popular swimming spots, this beach is the perfect choice. It's ideal for those who enjoy natural beaches.
Waterfront
Verőce Free Beach stretches along approximately 200 meters of shoreline, partly covered with grass and partly with pebbles. On the pebbly side, a few sun loungers help boost your vitamin D levels. If you prefer staying cool in the shade, bring an umbrella or a sun tent, as there is very little shade on the beach.
Regarding swimming, the beach received a good water quality rating last year from the National Public Health Center. This means pollution is rarely experienced at this spot. The water quality is regularly monitored to ensure visitors are not caught off guard.
Since the water depth increases gradually, it's safe for families to visit. However, since it is a natural body of water, special attention should be paid to children and non-swimmers while they are playing or bathing.

Visegrád Bobsled Track
Looking for a thrilling yet family-friendly experience? Head to the Visegrád Bobsled Track! Since 1991, the winding bobsled tracks near the Nagyvillám Lookout have been delivering safe and exciting rides for all ages.
Located on the hillside next to the beautiful Nagyvillám Lookout in Visegrád, the bobbahn offers two tracks for thrill-seekers, guaranteeing endless fun. On the traditional track, you can enjoy summer bobsledding, while the weather-resistant alpine bob allows sliding in any season. Both offer a 700-meter downhill run.
Since the end of 2009, visitors can also enjoy a new service: an action photo system that takes a snapshot at a specific point during the ride. You can purchase these memorable photos at the ticket office afterward!
Danube Bend-Nagymaros
Directly opposite Visegrád lies Nagymaros, a small town with one of the most beautiful stretches along the Danube, known for its quiet and peaceful atmosphere.
There are many reasons to visit, but the main attractions include the stunning views from the Visegrád Castle and the Solomon Tower, as well as the well-maintained Danube promenade featuring a playground, two excellent pastry shops, and a great starting point for the Julianus Lookout Tower. Nagymaros is an important stop on the northern shore bike path of the Danube Bend, with many snack bars and even a bike repair shop.
For those arriving by train, it is recommended to get off at the Nagymaros-Visegrád stop, which is closer to the town center than Nagymaros railway station, and only about 1 km from the Danube shore.
Nearby, the Nagymaros-Visegrád ferry offers easy crossings to Visegrád by car, bike, or on foot.
Királyrét- Szokolya
Királyrét lies in the heart of the Börzsöny Mountains and is one of the most popular family-friendly hiking destinations near Budapest. The area offers numerous sights, activities, and entertainment options, providing a full day of engagement. Although the road infrastructure is good for driving there, it's recommended to take the Királyrét Forest Railway from Kismaros, especially when traveling with kids.
Királyrét Location
Királyrét is a family recreation spot located north of Szokolya, where the peacefulness of the forest truly soothes the soul. Here, the Szén Creek, Bagoly-bükki Creek, and Királyréti Creek meet and join together in the Morgó Creek. Its location makes it an excellent starting point for several hiking trails. Those who want to explore the High Börzsöny extensively should start their adventure here.
Getting There
Királyrét is easily accessible by car, motorcycle, or bicycle. Well-marked roads lead from Kismaros through Szokolya to the hiking area, making it nearly impossible to get lost. Parking is divided into two zones: a daily ticket costs 400 HUF near the center, while parking deeper in the forest costs 1000 HUF per day.
